| Soybeans are packed with
wonderful substances that can be termed as premier cancer killers.
There are many ways in which natural chemicals in soy fight cancer. But
let us prove this first. In America breast cancer rates range around 30
per 100,000 people which is nearly 5 times the rate in Japan which is 6
per 100,000. America's prostate cancer rate is 20 per 100,000 people as
compared that of Japan's 3 per 100,000 people it is as much as 7 times
higher. If these numbers do not prove anything then let us consider soy
consumption. The Japanese consume 30 to 50 times the soy as compared to
an average American. When urinary testing of certain phytoestrogens
in soy like genistein and diadzen were measured in Japanese women
it was found to be in the range of 3000 nanomolars as against 40 nanomolars
in American women.
Let us see the scientific
reason of the soy consumption being the reason behind such a vast difference
in occurrence of cancer between Japan and America. Soy is one of the richest
sources of protein in the plant kingdom. Soy contains biologically active
compounds called isoflavones that have been shown to have wide range of
activity in the body. Soy contains phytoestrogens like genistein,
diadzen and glycitein. Which are natures own anticancer medications.
Cancerous tumors need blood
to grow in size and turn malignant. Cancer cells tap into natural
process of blood vessel creation in the body, a process known as angiogenesis.
A diet rich in soy have been known to prevent such a new blood vessel growth
around cancerous cells thus starving the blood supply to cancerous tumors.
America is home to massive
soybean production and the major exporter of soy. But unfortunately soy
remains an outcast in the dinner table of an average American. Most Americans
may not even heard of the word tofu. It is time this is changed and we
take to soybean in a big way for the simple reason of self preservation.
