Is prevention of cancer
possible? Is there any magic or high tech pill developed by some pharmaceutical
conglomerate that can ward off cancer? These are the questions that most
of who are worried about cancer have been secretly harboring and openly
inquiring. How good it would be if there is a miracle pill that can prevent
cancer the devastating and deadly disease that takes a huge toll on society?
As much as one in two American will develop cancer at some point in their
life. At 50% strike rate of cancer most of us or someone close to
us will come under the grip of cancer - be it malign or benign type.
There is no magic or secret program or pill that is yet to be developed.
It is already developed and we know the answer very well. In fact
cancer prevention can be fun. It involves what most of us love to do -
eating.
The only way you can reliably
wriggle out this impending cancer death trap is by eating. You need to
eat all the right nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fats and
proteins to arm and fortify your body so that it can take on the cancer
demon and defeat it. Most doctors and healthcare professionals advise an
11 point diet plan.
Make sure you eat flavonoid
rich food like apple, onions, garlic, bee proplis, citrus foods, green
tea and dark chocolates every day. Flavonoids help to eliminate mutagens
and carcinogens, and therefore may be of value in cancer prevention. Flavonoids
could also induce mechanisms that may kill cancer cells and inhibit tumor
invasion. Include foods that are rich in antioxidants everyday in
your diet. The best way would be to make a juice out of equal portions
of beets, carrots and broccoli and drink at least one glass every day.
Calcium is must in order
to protect against many types of cancer - particular that of colon and
rectum (colorectal cancer). While egg and milk are good sources of calcium
the best option would be to get calcium from low fat and non dairy products
like beans and leafy vegetables. You should eat cruciferous vegetables
like cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli every day. This will strengthen
your detoxification system and would modify estrogens to a type not associated
with cancer.
You should consume plenty
of fiber every day. The best source of fiber is from beans, vegetables,
oats, whole grains and fruits. At least once a week have sumptuous meal
of fish that is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Fatty cold water fish like
haddocks, cod, salmon, tuna and halibut are the richest source of omega
3 fatty acids. Eat plenty of garlic or at least take garlic supplements
daily.
Ensure that you consume 6
servings of fruits and vegetables every day. It is a good idea to wash
them thoroughly before consuming as they may contain pesticides. Even organic
fruits and vegetables contain pesticides. Meat consumption particularly
that of red meat has to be minimal. Consume only hormone free and antibiotic
free meat. Remove skin of chicken and turkey before consuming. Use plenty
of olive oil in your meal. They can be used for salads as well.
